DigitalOcean NS as my backup DNS server

Posted on July 4, 2014

Hi, I just setup my first droplet on DO. If i pointing my domain NS from registrar to my first droplet (lets say SERVER1) and DO NS. Will it be like i’m having SERVER1 as my primary NS and DO as my backup DNS ?

If it so, is there any possibility for me to make update from my SERVER1 to DO NS automatically sync ?

Just incase anyone finds this answer as well. I wrote a less clever version of NickHiddenClever’s script in node because python is a pain on CentoOS - https://github.com/threesquared/digitalocean-dns-sync

Unfortunately we do not support AXFR currently so you will have to manually update your DNS records using our control panel. You can vote for this feature on our suggestions board.

Hi there,

I wrote a script to do just this, not sure if it will help depending on your setup but it does exactly what you need. I’m still working on a few duplicate entry bugs with the intelligent sync portion but the full sync option works flawlessly.

Thanks,
