display domain name for forwarded url

Posted on July 11, 2018

I want to keep my email at my provider, but I want to direct web traffic to my droplet.

My current setup is keeping the provider’s name servers (so everything stays there) and forwarding web traffic to my droplets ip. That works, but only problem is I see the ip address instead of the domain name (logically). And I imagine I will run into trouble in the future, as soon as I start fiddling with ftp and such…

Any ideas how I can make this happen properly? Is it possible to replace the name servers by the digital ocean nameservers and then somehow forward email back to my provider?

Many thanks!

Hello friend!

If you are seeing an IP in the URL bar when visiting the site, the most common scenario in which this occurs is when you are running Wordpress and it is configured to see that IP as it’s URL. If that sounds like it may be your situation, check out this guide on changing the URL configured in Wordpress:
