dns, domain name point to github pages and subdomain to droplet not working

Posted on October 10, 2013

I have added two A records via the control panel.

domain = umlg.org

A @ 204.232.175.78 (github pages ip) A demo.umlg.org 162.243.10.108 (droplet)

I have waited more than 24 hours but demo.umlg.org domain is not working. Can not ping it or do a nslookup on it.

Is something wrong with how I have set up the 2 domains?

Thanks Pieter

Hi Pieter,

have a look at this: http://demo.umlg.org.umlg.org

simply set your subdomain’s DNS record to
A demo 162.243.10.108

Ha, how about that.
Thanks

Assuming you’re using DigitalOcean’s DNS Manager,
demo.umlg.org
can work as well; so long as you add a dot at the end, i.e.
demo.umlg.org.
. See How To Set Up a Host Name with DigitalOcean.

By only specifying
demo
, DigitalOcean’s DNS Manager appends
.umlg.org.
automatically.
