DNS issue after set up

July 19, 2017 120 views
DNS Ubuntu 16.04

I finished setting up a new droplet and I've followed the guide as to set up the DNS.

The domain was on GoDaddy, so I went there and update them (ns1, ns2, and ns3)

On Networking->domains on DO I've added the domain, then the A record for @ and * (since I want to have subdomain)

Now that the DNS seems to be updated what I get is just an error from the browser (server DNS address could not be found.). When I ping it that is what I get:

cannot resolve DOMAIN.COM: Unknown host

Did I break something somewhere?

PS: on google public DNS I also get this error:

Nameservers refused the query [,,]

Hi @Wran

If you just changed the name servers, then you have to wait - sometimes up to 48 hours, before GoDaddy has given control over to DigitalOcean's name servers.

You can run the following command to see your name servers and DNS records:

dig domain.com NS
dig domain.com A
dig www.domain.com CNAME
  • Is not "just", a little less than 24H now.
Anyway that what i got from the dig:

;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: SERVFAIL, id: 52901
;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0
    • @Wran
That's still less than 48 hours.
Well, it seems like something has failed. Try to change the name servers again to verify that GoDaddy has changed the name servers.
Otherwise you might need to contact their support.
