Question

Do I need Droplet to complete DNS configuration?

Hi. I am new to Digital Ocean and having problem with configuring my DNS. I have two domain addresses to which I will map my DO app. App deploys successfully, but neither of the domains work, where the address given by DO (the one that ends with ondigitalocean.app) works perfectly. Have to point out that in the App Specs in the alerts part, I see '- rule: DEPLOYMENT_FAILED and ‘- rule: DOMAIN_FAILED’. I saw that it is also instructed to create an A record for the domain, pointing at your Droplet but I am not sure if it is obligatory. I would like to ask someone to enlighten me on this. Thank you.

Hi @AhmetAta Kulaksizoglu,

Regarding DNS and other services at DigitalOcean, it’s not mandatory to use DigitalOcean’s DNS services in order to use the others. All you need to do is point your Domain to your Apps with DigitalOcean and that it’s. You can use other providers for your DNS management.

Having said that, I’ll recommend using DigitalOcean just so that all of your products are at the same time.

Hello,

There is no need to create a Droplet and add an A record.

You just have to add your domain name to your DigitalOcean account as described here:

https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/networking/dns/

And then you can manage your domain as described here:

https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/app-platform/how-to/manage-domains/

Hope that this helps!

Best,

Bobby
