    excelent question. I wish DO could offer a plain-simple service for that, maybe not even mailboxes would be needed, just plain forwarding. that’s so ridiculously easy to do with a regular shared hosting provider. please tell me if you find a solution! thank you.

No. Mail servers are up to you if you want one. I recommend using a third party such as https://mailstache.io (hosted on DigitalOcean by someone in the IRC chat) or similar.
