Is it normal to have to log in to DO every time I want to access my droplet or the community? Finding myself logged out by default is becoming quite annoying. Is it just me?

No, and the reason for this is security. They are a server host meaning all your data is behind that one login. Because of this, the session expires after your browser window closes (some browsers it is after the process exits). To stay logged in, the easiest way would be to keep the browser window open (just minimize it or something). But, keep in mind you will be opening yourself up to attacks by someone else using your computer.
