Taking a branched snapshot (i.e. taking a snapshot based on a previously taken snapshot) would save a lot of resources for both the DO servers and the users (in terms of storage and transfer). If a user has a droplet with a significant size, then takes a snapshot of it, then he makes little changes and wants to back everything up before making further changes that could break things up. It would be wise to only back up only the little changes that he made and not the whole droplet. That is a waste of storage, time, transfer, energy! I use VirtualBox and I take snapshots of VMs all the time. There is nothing in the UI suggests DigitalOcean supports this functionality. if DO doesn’t support that, is there any good reason for not doing so?

Hey @giantazurestarfish,
I don’t think that this is supported as of the time being, but this sounds like a great idea, sounds like it’d be super useful!
The best thing to do to get your voice heard regarding this would be to head over to our Product Ideas board and post a new idea, including as much information as possible for what you’d like to see implemented.
Hope that helps!
