Droplet got borked on 17.04 upgrade

Droplet got messed up on an attempted upgrade. Since we can no longer self-serve for bootup issues, the article said to contact support to enable a recovery ISO which I did. Currently waiting 6+ hours for a response.

Why is it taking so long for what should be a simple response?

Because you're not paying for a support SLA. Why did you not make a snapshot before upgrading?

  • because I didn't realize they don't give you access to the underlying volumes like AWS does, otherwise I'd just make a new machine and connect the volume to it

  • Can I pay more for support that responds in a more reasonable amount of time than 6 hours?

    • @aber Currently no, but if you use more than $1,000 per month, then you get extra support services.
