Question

ext4 on the CentOS 7 image? I was expecting XFS.

  • Posted July 14, 2014

Seeing as XFS was deemed as the default filesystem for RHEL/CentOS 7, I kind of expected when running df -Th that I would find the root filesystem as being XFS. That said, I found it as being ext4. Was this done intentionally? I know an installation to a VM that I did was XFS out of the box, and Linode’s image is the same way. I suppose it doesn’t really affect things at all for my use case, but I am curious why ext4 was chosen.

Thanks!

Hi,

How do I change the XFS file system to EXT-4 in CentOS 7.

Regards,

Hi,

Right now we only support ext4. It’s been tried and tested on our backend. Supporting custom OS images is on our roadmap, and the ability to use other file systems will probably be part of that work. You can keep track of the status over on our UserVoice page.
