Well, yesterday the total of my disk usage was 24 GB only. Today its 174 gb.

I cleaned all the log files, everything is clean. Total disk usage of all the directories is only 5 GB but my system says its 174. whats up?

My system is Debian

  • My advice: install ncdu:

    apt-get -y install ncdu

    Next, just run this:

    ncdu /

It’s a great tool to easily drill down to find the cause. You can arrow down/up or hit “enter” to drill down into a given folder.

Run the following (probably as root), when it completes then see /tmp/size.txt for a sorted list of the largest files and directories

du -a / | sort -n -r > /tmp/size.txt
