Question

Fail2ban not working.

I have installed fail2ban as per the following tutorial. https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-protect-an-nginx-server-with-fail2ban-on-ubuntu-14-04

i have a wordpress site and one application on php fremwork. i tried with wrong password on both places but im not blocked for the given time period. just to mention, i removed my ip from the ignore IP before testing this.

these are my fail2ban details

We would need to see your /etc/fail2ban/jail.local in order to be able to answer this question ;)

Hi @newbie,

Since you haven’t provided the jail.local file I can’t be sure if you don’t have the next configuration in place however in you’ll need to add these settings

[nginx-nohome]

enabled  = true
port     = http,https
filter   = nginx-nohome
logpath  = /var/log/nginx/access.log
maxretry = 2

[nginx-noproxy]

enabled  = true
port     = http,https
filter   = nginx-noproxy
logpath  = /var/log/nginx/access.log
maxretry = 2

[nginx-noscript]

enabled  = true
port     = http,https
filter   = nginx-noscript
logpath  = /var/log/nginx/access.log
maxretry = 6

[nginx-badbots]

enabled  = true
port     = http,https
filter   = nginx-badbots
logpath  = /var/log/nginx/access.log
maxretry = 2

As soon as you do restart fail2ban you should see the results.

Regards, KDSys
