File permission for Nginx default html directory after setting up proFTPd

LEMP Ubuntu 16.04

i just installed proftpd and everything works fine except ability to change or write in a file via ftp with my user. i searched and found this quesion( https://www.digitalocean.com/community/questions/ftp-permissions-to-upload-files) and add my user to www-data group but nothing changed!
nignx html directory permission:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 www-data root 612 Apr 26 2016 index.html

Confirm that your user is a member of the www-data group by running:

  • groups

Make sure there is www-data in the output.

If your website is located in the html directory, then try using the following command:

  • sudo chown -R :www-data html
