I am trying to login with my initial credential - it just works fine and ask me to change password. I change password and click enter. It just reloads console and ask for credentials again. When try with my updated password it says login incorrect.

It shouldn’t be asking for your credentials again after you’ve changed the password. The flow should look like:

You are required to change your password immediately (root enforced)
Changing password for root.
(current) UNIX password:
Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:

Note that the first prompt is for the current root password. The one that is emailed to you. If that is entered incorrectly, you will be logged out and the password will not have changed.

If you’re still having issues, you can reset the password in the DigitalOcean control panel:

  • And why is there no appropriate message to tell people the exact thing to do.
It is not everybody that uses DO are UNIX savvy.

The instruction could better be added to the email sent after a droplet is created.

I think a company like DO should know that when any operational procedures are changed,
people that didn’t read their blog or newsletter must also be informed appropriately.

  • @walen007 Including instructions in the email with the password is a great idea. I’m going to pass that along to our product team. Thanks for the feedback!

  • We are using Ubuntu - there is no root passwd.
We also only use ssh keys.
    What should we do?
