First time VPS user, where to buy a domain?

This question is not entirely for asking the cheapest place to buy a domain, but to ask you, the community, what is the best registrar to buy it from? Don't know if it makes any difference where am I going to buy it, but a lot of reviews and stuff are on the internet and really don't know who to trust anymore. So my question is with what registrar to you have experience and what would be a safe and reliable option to buy a domain from. Thanks in advanced.

you can get free whois privacy with PRIVACYPLESE coupon :)
Namecheap, free first year WhoisGuard privacy protection.

not exactly what I had in mind. Everybody suggests a different registrar.

So basically does that mean that it really doesn't matter where the domain is bought?
Not really. Just look for price and and free add ons you might like. Easy of use etc.

Free privacy protection is good as long as you are not a business. I don't trust businesses that try to hide that info.

I would say most if not all have free dns nameserver hosting for the domain. Of course you can always point them to digitalocean.

I personally ended up going with godaddy, they seemed to have the best price at the time for the domain I wanted, though in the end all will achieve the same result.
