Having problems installing php onto my droplet.

Posted March 19, 2015 5.6k views

I did go to the tutorials/how-to-install-linux-apache-mysql-php-lamp-stack-on-ubuntuon on how to install the LAMP/Apache....stack of which php is included. However, it look like ubuntu is not included so I can’t install anything. The droplet is public so I don’t know if this is why I am having problems with the install.

When I typed sudo apt-get update in the console window, it generated errors that it failed to fetch updates.....

Need help please.

  • What do you mean by “Ubuntu is not included so I can’t install anything”?

  • I’m not sure but the tutorial said that ubuntu should be installed in all private instances? My droplet is public. Does this matter?

  • There’s no such thing as a private or public droplet that I’m aware of. And you can use other distributions than Ubuntu.

  • Hello All,

This is Fadel. Rosalyn, my colleague, is using this account. Can you plz send communications to as well? (They are currently coming to only).

Re this question: The discussion is not going in the right direction. Let’s take a step back. All Rosalyn wants to do is to install PHP on the droplet named Apache. Can you plz help her?

  • Hi,

I apologize but I’m not going to start emailing you personally because the point of this public forum is to be able to help other users, not just the person asking the question.

You’re right, this isn’t going in the right direction: What is actually preventing her from installing PHP? We don’t know yet. apt-get update sometimes fail, but trying later should fix that issue unless the droplet is completely unable to contact the internet.
