Question

High Network Latency SFO1

Hi there, I have a low-end droplet in the SFO1 datacenter, and I’m struggling with a frustrating problem that I haven’t been able to nail down.

For whatever reason, the console gets moments of extreme latency. So bad, that I can type an entire command, press enter, and still not even see what I’ve written yet for a second or two before it suddenly jumps on the screen and executes. This is also causing problems for the application websites.

I’m looking at a ping to 8.8.8.8 and the ping is woefully inconsistent. Most pings are at a steady 24ms, which is good, but there are far too many pings that hit 500-3000ms. During these moments, the console understandably freezes, and it happens often enough to be a problem.

I saw that on July 8th there were reports of latency issues, and that they were reportedly fixed, but it doesn’t appear to be the case for me. Any ideas?

Hi!

If you’re seeing latency issues, the best thing to do is open a support ticket. Please include a traceroute from your local machine to the droplet. That will help the team diagnose the problem.

You can always check on the status page to see if there are any on going issues.

Thanks!
