Hosting multiple websites on Dokku server

November 5, 2014 7.3k views

I have a DO VPS set up for Dokku and I wanted to know if it is possible to host multiple websites on one Dokku droplet and how to do so.

Thank you so much in advance.

In order to host multiple websites on one Dokku droplet. You should use the "virtualhost naming" scheme. You can use Dokku as normal, and each app you push will be available at a subdomain with the same name as the app. For example: Check out this Dokku tutorial for more details.

If the sites need to be on completely separate domains, take a look at the dokku-domains-plugin on GitHub. You can install it with:

git clone /var/lib/dokku/plugins/domains-plugin
dokku plugins-install

And then set the domain for an app like:

dokku domains:set myapp

We’re going to show you how simple it is to get started with step-by-step instructions. By the end, you’ll have a Heroku-style application running on a DigitalOcean Droplet, deployed via Git, and a Dokku instance ready for more.
  • Hi,

I followed the instructions on the given links, but I have some issues. I have deployed two nodeJS apps (main and admin).

The DNS settings look like this:

    First, a regular A record (
    Second, a wildcard A record (*

I would expect to view my main app when i visit but I both cases I can see just the admin app.

    What exactly is wrong?

  • Hi, Andrew.

I've set the separate domain for my app ("") with plugin.

But what type of record should I create on my domain? Should I appoint it to my ip (I need several apps on the same droplet)? Could you detail this, please?

    Thank you!
