How are spaces working for other people?

I’ve been hearing about spaces but was wondering if the issues with latency & deleted spaces accidentally have been an issue lately?

How does Spaces compare to AWS S3?
Has anybody noticed any slowdowns on uploading?

These are issues that I saw on the internet that are old issues & was wondering if they have been fixed?

Hey Dragon,

I have about 500k objects stored ranging from 1kb to 10mb averaging about 50kb. I haven’t had any problems with reliability.

I do dislike their stated 150 PUTs/s rate limit but I haven’t run into it yet.

  • Hello Domvraph,

    Thanks for the reply.

I tried DO Spaces & it was going good until I ran into the 150 PUTs/s so I learned that AWS is the only service that can keep up with my uploads. I put around 2 mil + on DO spaces. I also ran into very slow uploads as well with my objects. My upload ranges from 1 MB to 4 MB depending on the quality.

I did like the real-time stats though on the count.

Overall it wasn’t a bad experience but I would say that currently DO spaces are not production-ready yet. I know DO will get it there just like their other products. I’ll keep on watching it.

    • Personally I don’t mind the limitation to split uploads across multiple spaces to counter the rate-limit problem (obviously this should be addressed at some point though). Slow uploads also don’t affect me because I use a backend job to do uploading (so they can take a long time and I wouldn’t notice or care)

I’m happy with it because the pricing is good and the product is simple. I understand you may have more intense needs though.
