How can I backup and access files on the server using IDE?

Hello Guys,
I have a question regarding accessing files uploaded on our server - I hired a developer who has experience with Digital Ocean to do some work and upload the files on the server. Work was done, and files are now on the server. Problem now is that I needed to copy the files onto my local machine for one reason or the other.

First off I am a newbie to this whole cloud server thing, but my question is how can i log in to the server using a preferred IDE (like PyCharm) in order to access files.

I do have these information of the server:

IP Address:
IPv6 Address:
The App is located in /var/www/appname
The VirtualEnv is in /var/virtualenvs

but since I can’t use FTP to log in I don’t quite know where to plug them in, which brings me back to how I can access and transfer files.

While our droplets do not include an FTP service by default an SFTP service is enabled out of the box. Using port 22 with your root credentials will allow you to create an SFTP connection to your droplet and manage your files remotely.

    So I plugged in the IP address into the SFTP host using an IDE (Pycharm), but got back an error:

    “The authenticity of host ‘XXX.XXX.XX.XXX’ can’t be established.
    RSA key fingerprint is 7a:fd:2c:73:51:d7:ce:ea:8f:fa:95:df:21:f0:48:42.”

    Any suggestion on how to connect using an SFTP client?

  • Generally when making a connection to a new SFTP server the first time this message is displayed. It is usually accompanied by the prompt:

    Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)?

    Once selecting Yes the first time the server’s public key is stored on your computer for future connections.

    Thanks again for your response. I did select “Yes”, and got this prompt:

    “Connection to ‘’ failed.
    SSHMSGDISCONNECT: 2 Too many authentication failures for root ”

    Any help/ suggestion would be very much appreciated.
