How can i go about this permission issue i have with replacing the file "Could not save the file “/var/www/html/index.html”."

LAMP Stack Configuration Management Apache Ubuntu

I have tried several posibilities of changing the permissions for the /var/www/ directory so i can access the file but failed.

chown $user:$user /var/www -R
