Hey Guys,

How did this end up?

Yes the install procedure is way too fragile. I have done it many times with various errors generated at every possible dependency point.

Is there a way to install a VM (V to V) on Digital Ocean. MusicBrainz has the .ova file, but I am not clear on how I would “install” that as my droplet…

Thanks,

Joel

Hi Barisoner:

This isn’t a trivial install, but the instructions are here: https://github.com/metabrainz/musicbrainz-server/blob/master/INSTALL.md

Following them to the letter seems to work about 50% of the time. My last attempt ended with the CSS not working, so the interface was broken.

Those instructions are for setting up a MusicBrainz server using VirtualBox machine image. While it might be possible to get that running on DigitalOcean, running a virtual machine inside of a virtual server isn’t always the best idea.

I’d suggest that you take a look at the manual installation instructions over on the MusicBrainz GitHub page.

If you are installing the server on Ubuntu than I have made an automated script which will install the sever automatically on you system. I have uploaded the script on Github:
