Posted on April 11, 2019

Hi digitalocean team!

We want to transfer one of our virtual machines, running on Proxmox, to digitalocean cloud. But exported image is more than 100Gb.

How can I do it ?

Thanks.

Greetings!

This is a great question. In your case I believe that I would focus on making an image of the system without the bulk of data. Once you have the image up and running on our server, you could then use something like rsync to move the data over.

For example, let’s say that the bulk of data is being used at /var/lib/mysql. I might make a copy of the VM locally, remove /var/lib/mysql from that copy, and then create the image from that copy. That would be my process under that scenario.
