I’m actually about to build a Shoutcast server. I’ll most likely follow this guide: forum.haphost.com/index.php?/topic/101-shoutcast-server-installation…
But in addition to that I’ll install Plesk 12, if only for the security aspects, such as Firewall and Plesk’s handy Fail2Ban module, which I found easier to manager than the standard distro.
Also it means I can use a subdomain the stream, such as http://live.myradiostation.com:8000/
Then I can set that up so that if a user goes to just the subdomain without the port number, they’ll get redirected back to the main site. Whereas if they use the proper address with port number, they’ll get the stream itself.
Heck with a Plesk licence coming in a $4 and a server instance at $10 (1GB ram is my preference), it is still cheaper than using a dedicated shoutcast provider.
Why not use Icecast instead? This is just as good and has better support.
Hello, how this did outcome turn out? any pointers? thanks
