How do a I open a .jar on my VPS?

I downloaded a .jar and every time I go to open it requests that I select an application to run it on.

According to Wikipedia, .jar is a Java ARchive file. Do you have Java installed on your droplet?
nope, let me rephrase the question now I understand it better...
How do I install java on my unbuntu desktop linux vps?

I know I have to type some stuff in terminal but not sure on what I type.
