How do I connect files to the server once SSH'd into the command line?

How can I link HTML and CSS files to my server? I have them on my computer, I have the domain name, what do I need to do to get the files onto the server and my website up and running?

Hi @ABlueWhale

You would normally use a program that supports SFTP, like FileZilla.

You can follow this tutorial - if you have setup the server with SSH keys, then you follow those instructions - otherwise you just use the username and password option.

This article will teach you how to use Filezilla to transfer and manage files securely on your VPS.

Okay, I just finished that tutorial and now what? I see all these comments saying “I can’t access the /var/www/dsfafafe file… I didn’t even see that in the tutorial. I still have no idea how to connect files to my server.

I think you might want to reconsider having a server here on DigitalOcean. It requires a bit of skill and time to maintain your own server, which is not the same as using a hosting provider like SiteGround, where they take care of the server.

Download FileZilla, install it on your computer, connect to your server’s IP via SFTP using root and the password you’ve received. Then you can manage files on your server.
But this doesn’t install a web server, or database, or setup a scripting language like PHP, that requires that you first install that.
