I have digital ocean and google domains, and am trying to set up some custom email addresses using my domain name. I configured digitalocean’s nameservers to google domains.

Hey there!

We generally don’t recommend sending email from your Droplets:

But to answer your question, it depends on your OS and what type of mail application you’re setting up. For example, on Ubuntu you have these options: https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide/email-services.html

If you want to use G Suite with your Google domains, see this guide: https://domains.google/getting-started/email/

When setting up a web site or application under your own domain, it is likely that you will also want a mail server to handle the domain's incoming and outgoing email. While it is possible to run your own mail server, it is often not the best option for a variety of reasons. This guide will cover many of the reasons that you may not want to run your own mail server, and offer a few alternatives.
