You may want to try a more up to data tutorial for setting up an LAMP Stack. I’d recommend looking at the following. The first details how to setup a LAMP Stack while the second details how to work with VirtualHost blocks.

How To Set Up Apache Virtual Hosts on Ubuntu 16.04

If you’re open to using NGINX, I can help you there. I use and keep up with NGINX far more than I do Apache because I find it far easier to work with and far less cluttered.

Of course, if you want something super-simple to work with – something far easier than both NGINX or Apache, I’d recommend giving Caddy a go.

You can build your own version on the website, download it, upload it to your server, provide a much smaller configuration set and then run it.
