How do I store wordpress uploads on a different droplet?

I have one droplet that has wordpress website

I always wondered if it was possible to have the uploads folder on another droplet.

This way when I upload a image/audio it goes to the other droplet. I would just use a sub-domain for that droplet.

After uploading it should just point to that server via IP/Sub-Domain.

Is this even possible?

One way you could accomplish this is to create a NFS mount. With this approach, it would still look like a normal folder to WordPress and you wouldn’t need to handle things like rewriting the urls. You also won’t need to write any php code, just mount the remote directory on boot.

Interested to hear other solutions people might have… I know there are some plugins that will do this with an Amazon S3 bucket.
