Hello there @chookyin,

As already mentioned the port will be closed for new accounts. This is something we have been doing to reduce spam on our network. Please do not think that we are accusing you of sending spam, it is more that we simply cannot accurately determine who will send it.

You can also use a third-party mail provider like SendGrid in order to avoid issues like this one. I’ll also recommend checking this article:

Hope that this helps!

Hi @Chookyin,

SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol—put simply, it’s the process by which emails are sent across the Internet. Computer ports are how individual computers connect to a network and complete electronic processes. An SMTP port is a combination of both: a port designed to send email through a network and to its recipient.

In this case, in addition to opening 25 port you need to install a SMTP Server or use a external SMTP service.

Check if 25 port is used in your droplet:

$ nmap -p {PORT} {IP}

If you don’t have a SMTP Server installed in your droplet you can do it by following this tutorial.

Hope that helps,

Hello all,

It is possible that port 25 is closed for new accounts. This is something DigitalOcean has been doing to reduce spam on the network.

To qualify for the ability to send out emails, new accounts are required to wait 60 days before a request for removing the restriction could be raised. Once your account has reached 60 days of stable use, you could reach out to the DigitalOcean support team so they could look into this for you and possibly remove the block on port 25 for you:

In the meantime, you could instead use ports 465 or 587.

Hope that helps!
