I’ve and old java GUI program that is already able to run in headless mode, but it require anyway an x server up and running if we have not a desktop environment.
We do not need a desktop environment, but how to install, configure, and run an x server?

Did you ever find a good solution to this? I am in need of the exact same thing. Every tutorial I read is about how to install a full desktop environment. I just want a minimal X server to display remote applications on.
I need only to run the x.org session headless.
I’ve no experience in this field, sorry
