Question

How long can a cron be allowed to run?

I’m re-arranging the folder structure of folders I have in the bucket on Digital Ocean. The data is around 99GB. If I run the cron, it’s going to run for a while?

If the cron can’t run for a day because of settings on DigitalOcean, what are other alternatives? Any advice will be helpful.

  • By bucket I mean spaces on DigitalOcean.

The cron is going to run through each folder and copy files into a separate folder on the root. My goal is to change the folder structure.

@X40C Can you please tell me what other information would be helpful to include?

  • You could first test it in a separate folder with some bogus files before running it on the 99gigs.

But i really can’t say for sure what will happen cause i’ve no experience with these buckets, maybe someone else will come up with a better answer.

I’m assuming that “bucket” means “spaces” so i’ll post this link https://www.digitalocean.com/docs/spaces/resources/performance-tips/ . Sorry if this isn’t helpful but it is all i could find with the limited info in the above post.

So the limiting factor i’m seeing there is the requests per timeframe which is 200 req/s. I’ve no idea if moving stuff around inside the bucket falls into that limit but my best bet is that it most likely will as the main limiting factor of these things is the disk speed not the pipes.
