So I hired a developer to create my website. He promoted Digital Ocean. He no longer answers emails. His code is flawed and my site is now broken. I need access to the database to create some records so that I can fix errors. I open the console, and I am asked for login. I try root. I can then not even enter text in the password prompt. I am not even sure of the password. How do I gain access? My website has broken links due to errors in his code or design.

Hello, @countyfireplace
If you do not have the root password of your droplet on file you can simply reset it from your account.
Navigate to the control panel. From the project the Droplet is in, or from the main navigation’s Droplets page, locate the Droplet. Click the Droplet’s name to open its detail page, then select Access in the left navigation.
Click Reset Root Password to send an email to the address associated with your DigitalOcean account. You can use the password provided to log in to your Droplet through the console.
You can also check our official documentation about this:
https://www.digitalocean.com/docs/droplets/resources/reset-root-password/
Also keep in mind that when you’re asked for the password in the console the characters you enter are not displayed, this is a security feature. Once you’ve reset the root password just enter root as the username and then enter the password and press enter.
Hope that this helps! Regards, Alex
