How to add my .env variables on Droplet

Posted on June 29, 2021

I created my droplet, installed node and deployed my app from GitHub.

I have some variables in .env file. How can I add those variables in DO Droplet. Without them, my app won’t run.

Thank you

Hi there @Emmaueljbabatunde,

For Node.js I could suggest using the following package to load your env variables:

https://www.npmjs.com/package/dotenv

If you want to export the env variables from your .env file for your current shell session, you could use the following command:

export $(cat .env | xargs)

Hope that this helps. Regards, Bobby
