Question

How to creating a new droplet from existing snapshot for new domain?

 • Posted September 29, 2013

Hello, I have one droplet which is up and running on Virtualmin | centos | apache for one domain. Now i want to create a new droplet for another domain without going into hassle of setting up everything from scratch.

I know a droplet can be created through snapshot. But will it be possible to create a droplet with different IP and different region with every other settings intact?

Please let me know how to proceed.

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can create a snapshot with different ip address as well as for another region. They all wouldnt be the same otherwise there would be conflicts.

Just make a snapshot, goto create another droplet, and choose “My Images” and go from there.

Hello all. This new droplet has to be exactly the same size? I am using a prod server and I want to create a staging one based on a snapshop from the prod server, but much smaller

The login credentials should be the same as the ones set up on the original droplet (from which you took the snapshot).

What port did you use to connect to Webmin/Virtualmin’s web console on your original droplet?

Thanks for your reply @kamal

I have transfered the snapshot to all data centers, created the droplet with the image. Now the problem is that I am not able to login into the terminal/putty with the current port(port associated with the image) nor with the port 22, I have changed the IP address but no success
My question is what would be the login credentials for the new droplet, virtualmin etc. How do I change the IP address, hostname of the Image to the new one.

Thanks for further help

To be able to create a droplet based on a snapshot that was taken in another datacenter, you first have to transfer that snapshot to all datacenters by clicking the globe icon next to the image in https://ww.dgitalocean.com/images

Thanks Darius for your reply,
I am trying to create droplet from an image into different image with different hostname and in different region but I getting the following error

“The image you specified is not available in the selected region, you can make it globally available by initiating an image region transfer from the images tab.”

I have tried to create in all regions but not where the image was created.

Any other pointers would be helpful.

Thanks for further help.
