How to download the source code from a droplet

September 23, 2014 1.7k views

I took over a legacy PHP project which is deployed on DO. I was provided with the droplet ip and pass code, and also the contol panel credentials. However, I couldnt figure out the easiest way to grab the source codes to my local machine, and how to upload the modifed codes back to droplet? I only worked with PaaS before. does DO use git to upload codes? Please advise.

Hey, droplets are virtual servers hosted by DO, access to the code on a droplet is up to you/the owner of the droplet and isn't controlled by DO.

Default access to droplets is provided via SSH which you can use to connect via SFTP if you have the credentials. You can use a clilent like Filezilla (or another for your platform) which will allow you to upload/download files from the server.

Your droplet setup may be different though, they may have setup FTP, it may have Git repository, but this will be controlled by whoever setup the droplet, not Digital Ocean.

If you have any more questions or want anything clarifying let me know and I'll see what I can do.

  • @aled.skyrail Hi, I am wondering if I can download a project/files from droplet to local machine using git bash. If so, would you know how to do it? Thanks.
