Hi @ASPENEXTREME,

Can you provide us with some steps to recreate the issue on our end? This error is usually experienced when uploading big images,videos or themes on wordpress not when installing it.

Usually this is fixed with increasing the maximum upload size and execution times for your website however here seems too strange.

So please let us know the steps you are taking so that we can provide with a more accurate solution.

  • Hi @KDSys,

    Yes, you’re right my problem is uploading a new Wordpress theme and then I get an error message: “The link you followed has expired.”

    Will you please help me how to upload a new Wordpress theme? I am having a hard time uploading a new Wordpress theme because I always get the error message.

    • Hi @ASPENEXTREME,

      To fix the “link you followed has expired” error, all you need to do is to increase the maximum upload size and execution times for your website.

      In order to do that, you’ll need to edit your PHP.ini. You’ll need to set the following values

      uploadmaxfilesize = 64M
      postmaxsize = 64M
      maxexecutiontime = 900

      Please note, most probably these values are already set and you’ll just need to adjust them to your needs.

      Once you have, restart your Web Service - Apache/Nginx and you are good to go.

Hi @KDSys ,

How do I access my PHP.ini? And how do I access these?
uploadmaxfilesize = 64M
postmaxsize = 64M
maxexecutiontime = 900

Thank you so much for your help, this is my first time hosting with Digital Ocean. Your help and guidance means a lot!

Thanks, again!

Best,
A

  • Hi @ASPENEXTREME,

    Whether you’re working on localhost, or on a live server, the easiest and proven way to locate your php.ini file is to create a PHP file with a single line of code in it, and view the output.

    Open your server’s console and go to your application’s folder

    1. cd /path/to/your/website
    2. Create a file (name it however you want, in our case it’s ‘test.php’), and make sure it ends with .php extension.
    3. Put this line of code in it:
    <?php phpinfo(); ?>

    1. On the file via your browser. For exapmple if you placed it into your root folder, run http://example.com/test.php.

    Once it loads search for the line ‘Loaded Configuration File’. It will be something like /etc/php/7.2/php.ini

    Open it and change the said values.

    • Hi @KDSys ,

      When you say create a PHp file, is it the same as creating the LAMP? Wherein I am able to log to my Php Admin after?

      • Hi @ASPENEXTREME,

        To create a php file, you’ll just need to SSH to your droplet and go to the folder your website should be loading other files from. There you can create the file I mentioned in my previous reply.

        As for the php.ini, it is a file in your file system which provides different settings as to how your PHP to be executed.

        • I don’t know where my applications folder is. How do I access my applications folder. I’m using Wordpress.

          • Sure, I’ll help you out, can you let me know first which droplet have you chosen to use, is it the one that comes with Wordpress installed automatically?

            Regards,

          • Hi,

            I made a mistake of resizing my droplet thinking that if I do so the Wordpress will upload. I made a mistake of resizing it to $15/month with this option (Disk, CPU and RAM) How do I correct this mistake and resize it back to $5/month? :((

Hi @KDSys ,

I still couldn’t figure this out. Is there a way to give you credentials so you can get into my account and do these changes for me? Please let me know what you need so that you can access my account.
