How to get applications to be connectible using Floating IP?

I have enabled Floating IP for my droplet, and I am able to SSH into it using either the public IP or the floating IP no problem.

I currently have some LinuxGSM game servers configured and set to utilize the floating IP address instead of the public IP address so in case I decide to snapshot and dispose of the droplet and restore it later, I can access them with the same IP address.

Unfortunately I don’t seem to be able to connect to any of the servers utilizing that Floating IP address and I don’t really know what kind of configuring I need to do. I have all the appropriate ports forwarded for the servers and I can connect to them if I utilize the Public IP, but just not the floating IP.

What might I need to configure to accomplish this?

Hey there!

It sounds like your game servers may be binding to the public IP interface only. If possible try starting your game servers bound to all interfaces. Typically that would be done by setting them to use That should allow them to accept connections on the floating IP as well.

Hope it helps! Nate
