How to install an especific python and django versions on digital ocean ?

Hello everybody,

I am trying to deploy an old django app in digital ocean, this app is using django 1.8, python 2.7, is it posible to deploy this app here ? and if so, any guidance, link to right documentation or reference will be greatly appreciated.

Hi @JoseGalvan,

Yes, it’s possible! As long as you find a way to install those exact versions that is.

Let’ start with Python:

To install Python 2 version on Ubuntu 20.04 enter one of the following commands:

sudo apt install python2

OR

sudo apt install python-minimal

Then you can check your current Python version with:

$ python2 -V
Python 2.7.17

Now, installing Django:

You need to have pip installed first:

apt-get install python-pip

You might need to do something like:

apt-get install python2-pip

Once you have pip for python2, you can run:

pip install Django==1.8.1
