hi, i am finding it hard to login to my vps. on the ocean terminal so i used putty. after logging in to putty it ask me to change password when i input new password and hit enter it closes the dialogue and i would have to start completely afresh

The prompt on new droplets will ask for your username and password to log in and then will again ask for your current password before having you enter a new password twice. It sounds like you are attempting to enter your new password when the prompt is asking for your current one.
