How to set up Nginx with a running website

Hi All,

I am thinking of installing Gzip compression for my website to boost its performance. However, I am afraid that it might cause the current website to fail. Anyone with this experience?

As for the installation of Nginx, I was unable to run it despite changing it to port 8080.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi @fundlee,

Using Gzip compression shouldn’t cause any issues with your website. With that in mind, if you are afraid of issues, you can always perform a snapshot of your Droplet before actually making the change. Snapshots are on-demand disk images of DigitalOcean Droplets and volumes saved to your account. Use them to create new Droplets and volumes with the same contents.

Regarding your Nginx question, what error are you receiving when you are trying to start Nginx on port 8080?

Additionally, what is running on port 80 and why do you aim to install Nginx over it?
