How to update archive mirror host?

  • Posted December 23, 2014

The apt-get update command is very slow and is producing errors that look like this:

Err utopic/main i386 Packages
  404 Not Found [IP: 80]

… followed later by warning messages like:

W: Failed to fetch 404 Not Found [IP: 80]

… and finally this:

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

I presume that Digital Ocean’s archive mirror [IP: 80] is not in service. Should I be editing the /etc/apt/sources.list file, and if so to what, or is there a better way to restore normal apt-get functionality?

[Latest Ubuntu 14.10 x64]

It looks like there was a temporary issue with connectivity for the mirror. It should be fine now.

If you’d still like to replace the DigitalOcean provided mirror with the main Ubuntu mirror, this one liner will update your sources.list:

sed -i 's/' /etc/apt/sources.list

^ I also have this problem.
