Hulu rejecting DO Droplet VPN traffic, but accepting VPN traffic from a VPN server I have running at my house,

Posted on February 8, 2020

Based on the fact that Hulu rejects VPN encrypted traffic from the DO Droplet, and it accepts it from my VPN server running at my house, it seems like Hulu isn’t doing a deep-packet inspection of the traffic, but rejecting it because the DO data centers are known (at least by Hulu) to be coming from low-quality IPs. Can someone address this issue? It somewhat reduces the appeal of using a DO droplet as a VPN.

This is normal in Hulu, Netflix, etc. The services that try to block VPNs block the IP Addresses requested by datacenters.

There’s nothing that can be done by Digital Ocean, because the droplet works fine as a VPN with limitations created by the service providers of the specific service you want to use.

It’s not an issue of high or low quality IP addresses, is just that no one is connecting to watch Netflix or Hulu in a Datacenter, other than VPNs, therefore are blocked.
