Question

I got a problem with sending emails over SMTP

  • Posted September 12, 2014

Hi.

I need to be able to send emails from my droplet. I tried this tutorial https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-use-google-s-smtp-server but it didn’t work. After that here (https://www.digitalocean.com/community/questions/how-to-configure-smtp-to-send-a-mail-with-php) and in a couple more links I read that outgoing SMTP connections might be blocked.

Aren’t my connections blocked? Thanks.

Is your SMTP port open ? How looks your iptable ?

You could contact digital ocean and ask. You can create a new ticket in your account.

you should use some professional email company which can look after your smtp issues i faced the same problem until i found a good smtp relay service like http://bulkresponse.com they have inhouse team and a good support team as well good luck.

I contacted digital ocean and they told me that my smtp port is not blocked. But anyway I set up a free ManDrill account because I have like 1 mail a day (8

I might have a better response if I knew how your were sending the emails but personally, I like using SMTP Hosts like:

  1. SendGrid
  2. MailGun
  3. ManDrill

These companies focus on high deliverability.

They usually have instructions on how to setup SMTP for whatever you may be using it for. Some SMTP hosts also offer a free plan for up to a certain limit.
