Question

I had my service offline eh I also received a charge of 12 dollars

Due to maintenance, during the last month we have left the server off until we could have our services ready to be online, we assumed that this way we would not have charges during maintenance but today they just made a discount of $12

Hello @sleepingazureanemone

Indeed you will still be billed for a turned off Droplet.

When you try to power off a Droplet via the Control Panel, you would get the following warning:

When a Droplet is off:

Its data and IP address are retained and its disk, CPU and RAM are reserved. You continue to accrue its data transfer allowance.

Warning: You will still be billed for a turned off Droplet. To end billing, destroy the Droplet instead.

What you can do is take a snapshot of your Droplet and then delete the Droplet itself. That way later on when you need that Droplet again, you can restore it from the snapshot.

Hope that this helps!

Hi @sleepingazureanemone,

Even if the Droplet is offline you’ll still be charged. This is due to the fact your Droplet while not actually working is still taking data and space on DigitalOcean’s infrastructure.

You won’t be charged for any bandwidth traffic while your Droplet is offline as it won’t generate any however it will be charge it’s normal price just for existing.
