Hello @dinhkhaihtc,

We do offer the concept of rebuilding the Droplet, where you can upgrade the existing Linux distribution and get the latest one. However, we don’t offer this to changing the Linux distribution itself.

We strongly recommend you to create a new Droplet with desired Linux distribution. Below are the notes on rebuilding the Droplet.

To rebuild your Droplet from scratch while maintaining the IP, use the Rebuild option from the Droplet destroy page in the cloud panel or rebuild option through the API. https://www.digitalocean.com/docs/droplets/how-to/rebuild/

Any Droplets that are destroyed release the assigned IP address into the region’s address pool to be randomly selected for ongoing creates from the pool. There is no option to recover an IP address once it is lost.

While resizing events don’t change the IP address, if you are attempting to resize the Droplet to a smaller disk size, you will need to create a new Droplet as shrinking disk is not possible on Droplets due to file system limitations. The best approach in that case will include a DNS update to a floating IP address so that you can migrate the floating IP address to smaller Droplets seamlessly in addition to reduce downtime. Check out these product docs for information on using Floating IPs:

https://www.digitalocean.com/docs/networking/floating-ips/how-to/

https://www.digitalocean.com/docs/networking/floating-ips/quickstart/

Hope this helps!

Cheers, Sri Charan
