Installation of SCO UNIX 5.0.5 on a Digital Ocean Droplet

Posted on November 12, 2015

I would like to create my first droplet and I need it to run a really old system which runs on SCO OpenServer 5.0.5. What are my options ???

I am thinking that I need to create a droplet running something like Ubuntu14.04 then install VirtualBox on it then install SCO on a VM that I would create in VirtualBox. Is that the way to go or is it possible to import a VM directly from VirtualBox into a Digital Ocean Droplet.?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Dave Nolan

We don’t currently support the import of images or operating systems other than those we provide. While it would be possible to use the VirtualBox method you mention, running a virtual machine inside another virtual machine (Droplets are KVM VPS) would result in extremely poor performance.

If you could somehow manage to run what’s needed in a Docker instance (of which you’d most likely have to create on your own unless someone else has created and made one available), you’d most likely see better overall performance than if you went with VirtualBox for the reasons mentioned by @ryanpq .
