Is Digital Ocean appropriate for my mobile (iOS and Android) game project?

Posted on July 1, 2014

I’m 80% done with my game so it’s time to get the server stuff done. I don’t have much hosting experience.

About my project: It’s a sequel to my popular game. Expected daily players: 10 000. Players can upload their custom made levels and as well as download others. Each level is about 0.01MB in size. A PHP script will handle all the POST and GET calls from the game.

Expected monthly bandwidth: (0.01 * 10 000 * 31) = 3100MB /3.1GB

So is Digital Ocean appropriate for my project?

Thanks! (Btw sorry if this is considered spam, I couldn’t find a contact form)

I believe yes. If you want you can balance the traffic on 2 servers. (eu and us)

Even the smallest server should easily handle these requests. I handle about 10k daily accesses, with a total bandwidth of like 50-200 MB per day on the 5$ box. If you ever see the server being underconfigured, you can switch to a bigger server within minutes.
