Is Digital Ocean Managed Kubernetes as a service vanilla open source Kubernetes? Does Digital Ocean provides an abstraction layer and modify/overwrite open source Kubernetes?

I believe that the managed Kubernetes solution is a fork of Kuberenetes customized to meet DigitalOcean’s needs and services. I don’t believe that their fork is opensource but even if it was I can’t think of a case that you would want to use it rather than the official one.
