Is it possible to host a minecraft server on my droplet along side of my web site?

Posted on September 27, 2013

I am currently hosting a website on my droplet. Using LAMP on Ubuntu. I would like to know if it is possible to host a minecraft server alongside that website. However it is surprisingly difficult to find much information on whether it is possible. And if it is, how to do it. So I would like to know if it is possible, and if yes, then can someone point me in the right direction on how to do so?

Thanks!

It is possible, I’ve done it many times and its quite simple to do but it is extremely slow and laggy as there is little RAM. I hosted mine on a 1GB droplet and it was that slow so I really recommend 1GB + of RAM.

It is possible, you’ll probably find that you’ll be very starved for resources.

Minecraft uses a lot of resources. I highly recommend hosting it on a separate droplet as not to affect your website’s performance.
